i'd like to be...under the sea...

inspired by a moment on friday night when kathryn & i realised that if we danced in a certain way that we looked like an octopus. it was beautiful.

mind your own business: the return of

my favourite nightclub ever is making it's return, after a summer off! nights out in colchester haven't been the same (nowhere else has the winning combination of stellar music, a lovely crowd and cheap as chips drinks all night), so i'm really looking forward to it coming back :) here's the flyer i made for it.

animal dress-up series #2

here's #2 in my new animal dress-up series, a wee owl girl :)

animal dress-up series #1

because myself and fellow dingbat phil have been so busy working on client briefs lately, i've had little to no time to sit and just draw, or work on any self-initiated projects.

so last night when i was dead tired but on a roll with getting stuff done, i decided to start a new series of illustrations, and i'm naming it 'animal dress-up'. here's #1, a little fox boy.

pen + paper

some examples of hand-drawn type, of quotes from 'alice in wonderland'.

final major project part I

for my final major project at uni i produced thirteen posters, to represent one song from each studio album, that were visual representations of songs by the beatles. i wanted something which would hold my interest for three or four months and also something which would allow me enough room for creativity and exploration. i really enjoyed it! i produced some work that i'm very proud of.

journal typography

covers from two journals i submitted as part of my pdp (professional development planning) module a month or so ago. each journal was roughly A6.

the best karaoke duet that never happened

i drew this whilst manning our stand at the d&ad: new blood exhibition over the weekend. it is sadly not based on a true story, but rather my classmate oly suggesting "draw phil and i doing karaoke!". the song suggestion came from someone else though ;)

the weirdest crossover ever

"i have ended you"

philip and myself have recently discovered the joys of making mini zines, and are planning to create a whole series of them. this one is a sort of in-joke, based on a story involving my little brother. so this is a zine inspired by him. i did twenty copies of this, but have given a few out to people already.

bear's boutique

a little painting i did for my friend's birthday, in celebration of her opening her etsy shop soon. link to come!

mind your own business - april

mind your own business

this is the flyer i designed for last month's 'mind your own business' night in colchester.

top 25 most played

when we get back to uni after easter we're going to put together another little fund-raising show based on everyone's most played song in their music library. mine's 'my name is trouble' by the glorious nightmare of you. this is my piece; paper cut-outs on card.

a little drawing of philip howell & myself, as the hidden dingbat collective. we do nice work, at nice prices, and we're nice people to boot. ch-ch-check us out.

they say it's your birthday

because he's a good friend and i totally got it wrong first time round. whoops. sorry man.

this is from a little project we got set at the start of third year, based on the marvelous advice to sink in slowly. we made an exhibition out of it to raise money for our end of year show, it was good fun.

i haven't half neglected this little blog. i have simply been too busy, mostly with uni. third year is ridiculous! exciting, but ridiculous. i'm going to try & make the effort to post here every so often until i have my website up & running.

here's the flyer i did for january's mind your own business club night. i went, and it was the best one yet! triple smiths :)
